Wander through the patch...

Update Video...
The Monday morning update video might become a regular occurrence to help us keep track on the gardens progress as a whole me thinks... If I'm too boring let me know & I shall try to incorporate a jig or square dance in the middle to liven it up...
Have a great week all....

  1. Hi Rob.

Firstly, I love your blog! So informative, and makes me jealous of your garden every time! :)
Also, loving the videos - ads a whole new dimention (and makes me even More jealous!)
I had a few thoughts about the video. I found it a bit too long for my little mind to keep up with. I saw you did a bit of editing (cut and paste) and thought maybe a little more? To really clarify what you are saying. Ive noticed after 5 mins in any video, I start to get distracted.
Also - be proud! You garden is fantastic. You spend a lot of time looking at the ground, and not much time in front of the camera. Look out, jump up and have fun! Anyway, they are my thoughts - nothing nasty - and take it with a grain of salt. Thank you so much for sharing with us here! Karyn

  3. I'm wondering about your wicking garden beds... do you have a drainage pipe out the side? The big blue pots don't seem to have one (at least as far as I can tell!)

Hi Frogdancer.. The beds are all lined with plastic builders only to a certain hight so any excess water, like that from the January rains, just flowed over the edge of the plastic & down into the water table... Here is a post from last year... http://bitsouttheback.blogspot.com/2010/08/garden-up-to-now.html
The Barrels all have a drain hole with a pipe added to aid us in knowing when the reservoir is full... There are also holes that the zip ties go through to hold the filling pipe in place... http://bitsouttheback.blogspot.com/p/wicking-barrel-construction.html
I will be doing a video on a wicking barrel in the near future... Just waiting on a trailer to pick up 2 more barrels...
    HTH..Have a great one...
